One of Stephen F. Kelly's career goals has been to develop software tools that enable Energy Managers, Financial Operations Managers, Building Maintenance Engineers and other professionals tasked with the responsibility of energy efficiency to audit and remediate with the goal of approaching optimum building performance.

Historically, energy accounting software recorded, analyzed and reported energy usage and cost. This found billing errors and operating problems worth many times the software and database costs. However, this approach never accounted for variables such as weather correction, retail power options, energy management systems etc. These shortcomings limited the depth of accuracy of the reporting. Still, Excel driven spreadsheets utilizing only usage and cost do provide a basic two dimensional view of energy and its use.

Meaningful energy measurement and remediation requires accurate input from many variable parameters. In EASY, projections can be made based on:

• Weather adjusted data
• Past History
• Consumer Price Index
• Projected input values for escalation rates
• Comparative Rate Schedules

With EASY, multiple buildings can be 'ranked' using many different quantifiable criteria such as "Dollars/Sq.Ft.", "Weather Corrected Dollars/Sq.Ft.","Normalized Dollars/Sq.Ft." or similar parameters. These are just a few of the criteria available for analysis.

EASY is the brainchild of Stephen F. Kelly, PE. Steve's extensive background within the Enery field includes:

• Authoring Duke Power Company's Energy Analysis Program - SABER (Simulated Annual Building Analysis)
• Co-authoring Duke Power Company's Load & Management Program
• Developing and implementing Duke Power Company's "Chain Account" Program
• Serving as co-chairman of AXCESS 80's Management Group (AXCESS was the "keeper and administrator" of the original U.S. Department of Energy Analysis program
• Being selected and serving on International ASHRAE Committees (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers)
